blackberry almond smoothie

I have been playing a lot with my Vitamix lately and this is definitely the best smoothie I have come up with yet! The consistency really is more like frozen yogurt, which I was more than happy about, but if you prefer a thinner consistency you can always add water before blending.  I did not have almond butter on hand when making this so I dropped a handful of almonds in the Vitamix and blended until smooth before adding the other ingredients. If you do not have a Vitamix you could use a good blender instead, but I believe almond butter would have to be used, not whole almonds.


  • 12 almonds (blended before adding other ingredients) or 1 tablespoon almond butter
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 6 frozen blackberries
  • 1 banana
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional) 
  • 1 tablespoon flax (optional) 
  • 3 ice cubes

*healthy hint: almond butter can be substituted with any other nut butter or combined with other nut butters. Other berries could be used instead or in addition to the blackberries. Other additions could be cacao nibs, maca, or protein powder. Do you have a favorite smoothie or juice you like to make? I'd love to hear about other recipes!
