the benefits of wheatgrass
A few weeks back I was complaining to my yoga teacher about a few blemishes that had popped up. I eat well and take care of my skin, but once in a while I suffer from hormonal acne. My teacher mentioned she was drinking wheatgrass every morning because of it's amazing health benefits and had heard that it can really help with breakouts. I went home, did some research, and came to find that wheatgrass is loaded with good stuff! I figured it had to be somewhat healthy with its deep green color and knowing how popular it was in the 90s, but the benefits went far beyond what I thought. It contains, among other things, vitamins A, C, E, and B12, iron, calcium, magnesium, and amino acids. I read of so many different conditions it can treat and there were many claims being made. I also read that there is insufficient evidence to help support many of those claims being made (for more information you can check out this link to WebMD's information on wheatgrass). So, I decided I would try it daily for a month and see what happens!
I bought a manual, cheaper wheatgrass juicer, which can be found here. It works well but can be a bit time consuming since it is manual. I hope to invest in something more like this in the future. I juice about 60 ml a day and drink it in the morning on an empty stomach. I read you can get more of the benefits this way and are less likely to experience nausea. When you are first starting, I would suggest juicing only 30 ml and build up to 60, just to see how your body reacts and feels.
I have been juicing now for a month and have to say my skin is staying clear and I get so much energy from the juice. It has been a wonderful pick me up in the mornings!* I plan to continue this morning ritual for as long as I can.
*This has been my personal experience. I cannot promise you will have the same results.
