5 Resources on becoming a black lives ally

My blog has mainly focused on wellness, and inspiration. Though I have political opinions and a set of values I prescribe to, I typically don’t talk about them here. However with the current state of the country, the protests, the movement that’s happening right now, I also can’t pretend that it’s not happening or that it doesn’t matter. What affects others, affects us. We can’t be completely whole when our country isn’t. We can’t be completely at peace when there’s inequality, and violence, and suffering around us. I also, openly admit that I don’t have a lot of knowledge on the subject of what to do and how to begin to contribute to race equality. This subject has not been an area of expertise for me, and so humbly I choose to provide links and resources to you all instead of writing a post about what to do and how to proceed. I am learning as we go along here too and it would be misleading for me to pretend that I have any of the answers. I don’t. What I do have are some links to articles and resources which can provide better answers and ideas than I can. I believe the first thing we can do is to educate ourselves, be informed, to try to understand what others have gone through, and how this issue affects minority groups. We can become informed on what to do next, or on how to help. Below are just a few resources that might be helpful in making a difference or contributing to the movement towards equality.

30 Children’s Books About Diversity (because it starts at home, and it can be different for the next generation if we begin to implement these ideas early on).

29 Books By Black Authors on Identity, Justice, and Love (because in order to change something, we must first be able to see it)

8 Essential Aspects of Being an Ally to Anyone Who’s Not Like You (because so many people are facing challenges that we might not be able to fully understand, but it doesn’t mean we can’t be an ally)

Shop Black-Owned and Founded Wellness Brands: 55+ Companies to Support (because every dollar we spend casts a vote for how we want the world to be. Use your money to support the future you want)

115 Ways to Donate in Support of Black Lives and Communities of Color (again, because we vote with dollars)

I hope you find some answers in these resources. I hope I find some answers in them too. While 2020 has been a crazy, upheaval of a year so far, it has also been a year of amazing change on all levels. I can’t wait to see what changes this year brings about for all of us.
