Simple pleasure of the week: Kindness from others

While Matt and I are expecting to welcome our first child into the world any day now, something that has struck both of us throughout this pregnancy has been the kindness we’ve received from others. We have received such an outpouring of support, and generosity, and encouragement. It’s been humbling in the best kind of way. It’s been a process that has brought us closer to others, even amidst this pandemic, and shelter in place orders. Even though we weren’t able to have a baby shower, so many of our friends and family sent us gifts that we would need for this baby. We are so grateful and touched. My coworkers even threw me a surprise baby shower, during a pandemic, in the psych unit in the hospital! From what I’ve seen, this pandemic has brought out the best in people. We’ve seen companies step up to provide needed supplies, or relief for those economically impacted. We’ve seen mortgage companies postpone mortgage payments for the time being, and community members make or donate masks to healthcare workers. We’ve seen a huge revolution with the black lives matter protests where people were willing to speak up and take action on a mass scale leading to policy change. So this week, the simple pleasure is all about kindness from others, because with it, life is so much richer. Kindness feels good for the giver and the receiver. It’s a win win. So spread the love because we need it now more than ever. Happy Weekend!
